Keith Bower received a Master of Science degree in Quality Management and Productivity from the University of Iowa. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with Economics from Strathclyde University in Scotland, and is a Certified Quality Engineer from the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
He was a Technical Training Specialist with Minitab Inc.* and a Statistician with Unilever R&D* before joining Amgen* in 2006 where he is a Senior Quality Engineer. Keith is a member of the American Statistical Association and a Senior Member of the American Society for Quality.
To directly address practitioners' concerns and misconceptions, he has published short papers, and in 2004 created the website KeithBower.com to provide a central location for links to resources on the internet. In 2006 he moved into the field of audio/visual resources by linking Audio Podcasts to iTunes and creating Video Podcasts which are hosted through YouTube and iTunes.
In 2008 his narrated PowerPoint presentations, available through the ASQ's Statistics Division, were made available online.
"I am acutely aware of the debt owed to those who laid the foundation for modern statistical methods," he said. "It is important to recognize that a substantial body of knowledge already exists in this discipline."
"On a personal level, I gain pleasure in reading and re-reading papers from the giants in statistics and quality. I strongly recommend practitioners to search out materials from R.A. Fisher, William S. Gosset, Walter Shewhart, W. Edwards Deming, George Box and others and, moreover, take the time to seriously consider their advice." Links to several important historical papers are available through this link.
Keith is a keen supporter of Manchester United. He enjoys watching "House", "Jim Cramer's Mad Money" and more recently, seasons 1 and 3 of the new "Doctor Who". He resides in Seattle, WA.
His favorite quote is from Sir Isaac Newton:
"I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the sea-shore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me."
