Title: Evaluating the Usefulness of Data Using Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility
Authors: Keith M. Bower and Michelle E. Touchton
Publication Source: Asia Pacific Process Engineer, April 2001
Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gage R&R) studies are addressed. After discussing some theory behind the ANOVA output, the associated results from an example are analyzed, and conclusions drawn from a practical perspective. Several industry-wide guidelines are included in the discussion.
The methodology shown in the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) manual was used. These are the typical assumptions as also discussed in the paper by Montgomery and Runger cited in the paper. I strongly encourage those involved in measurement system analyses to read their paper in addition to this article, as the more detailed mathematical computations are discussed. That discussion was purposefully skipped for this article as it was intended as more of a "how to" guide. Gage R&R issues are also covered in the paper A Review of Methods for Measurement System Capability Analysis
