Title: Non-Traditional Measurement System Analysis with Continuous Data
Author: Keith M. Bower

Abstract

This article addresses the relationship between standard (manufacturing) measurement system analyses (MSA) and those encountered in the Service Quality/Transactional arena.

Notes

To perform a “Gage R&R” in the transactional arena can present several unique issues, not typically addressed in more traditional MSA studies. The instance of “fudging” one or more datapoints to create an error term (otherwise the mean squared error would be zero – i.e. there is no “repeatability”) is something I’ve come across frequently. As discussed in the paper, it’s entirely inappropriate (rather difficult to persuade people of this in practice though, as statistical results are generated.)
